Through the Monsoon

5 cards · about a minute

  1. Dry the dog properly

Damp between the toes, inside the ear folds and under a thick coat becomes a yeast or fungal problem within days, so towel down after every wet walk.

  2. Ticks do not stop

Warm, wet weeks are when tick numbers climb hardest, so keep the monthly prevention running and put your hands through the coat after every walk.

  3. Do not let them drink it

Standing water carries leptospirosis, which spreads through rat urine and is a risk to your household as well as your dog, so carry water and skip the puddles.

  4. Paws before the sofa

Rinse and dry the feet at the door: mud, drain overflow and whatever was standing in it all get licked off within the hour of getting home.

  5. When the rain wins

On days the walk cannot happen, work the nose indoors instead, a scattered meal or a hidden chew tires a dog more thoroughly than a soaked half-hour does.
