Feeding Through the Heat
4 cards · about a minute
Move the meals
In real heat a dog will refuse a midday bowl and eat willingly at dawn and after dusk, so follow the appetite rather than the clock.
Cool from the inside
Small amounts of curd, buttermilk, cucumber or seedless watermelon do more for a hot dog than any change of kibble does.
Lighten the bowl
Digestion makes its own heat, so through the worst weeks of an Indian summer a slightly smaller, leaner meal is kinder than the winter portion.
Water in every room
One bowl is never enough in this weather: put water wherever your dog rests, change it twice a day, and carry some on every walk.
