Coconut Oil, Honestly
4 cards · about a minute
What it does
Worked into a dry patch or a cracked paw pad it softens and soothes, and that small local benefit is the best-supported thing about it.
What it does not
It is not a dewormer, not a treatment for mange, and not a substitute for finding the cause of an itch, those claims travel much further than the evidence.
Start tiny by mouth
A quarter teaspoon for a small dog and up to a teaspoon for a large one, once a day at most, and only after a week of watching the stool.
Some dogs should not
It is pure fat, so dogs who are overweight, prone to pancreatitis or on a low-fat diet should not have it at all, ask your vet first.
