Scent and Calm
4 cards · about a minute
Their nose is not yours
A scent that reads as gentle to you is overwhelming at a dog’s sensitivity, so everything here is a question of less rather than more.
What is generally safe
Well-diluted lavender, chamomile and sweet marjoram are the usual choices for a calm room, diffused into the air and never onto the dog.
What is not
Tea tree, pennyroyal, wintergreen, pine and citrus oils are toxic to dogs, and no essential oil belongs on the coat or in the food.
Leave the door open
Diffuse briefly, only in a room your dog can walk out of, and stop if they go, the dog who leaves has given you the only opinion that matters.
