The nose is the point
A dog reads the world through their nose, and twenty minutes of sniffing tires one more thoroughly than an hour of walking to heel.
Let them choose
On the sniffing part of the walk, follow your dog: where to go is one of very few decisions a house dog ever gets to make.
Work for the food
Scatter dinner through the grass or hide it around a room, a dog who has to search for a meal is doing the job they were built for.
