Most Indian dogs are dewormed whenever someone remembers, which is how a puppy misses the weeks that matter most and an adult swallows tablets it may not need. Below is the standard veterinary rhythm, every rule printed before you enter anything, mapped onto your dog's actual dates.

Puppies get the full prophylactic protocol with no test-first option, because roundworm larvae cross the placenta and arrive in the milk: a puppy can be carrying worms before its eyes open. Adults settle into a quarterly rhythm, the cadence the Indian combination products are labeled for.

A missed dose is given once, now, and the rhythm resumes from that day. Nothing is ever doubled. Street and livestock contact raise the pressure, and this page says so out loud rather than silently shortening the interval.

One tablet per 10 kg
Indian combination dewormers are labeled one tablet per 10 kg of body weight, rounded up to the next band the way vets do: an 18 kg dog takes two tablets. These are the products a reader will actually find, actives printed. The mg arithmetic stays on the label and with your vet.

Albendazole does not appear in the table above on purpose. It is a human and livestock dewormer with documented bone marrow suppression and birth-defect risk in dogs, and it still gets handed across Indian counters as a cheap substitute. Fenbendazole is the safe member of that drug family for dogs.

June to September is peak transmission in most of India: hookworm larvae develop in warm, damp soil and enter through skin as easily as mouths. The doses on either side of the monsoon are the two not to skip. The schedule below flags every dose that lands in that window. Hookworm leads this story for a reason: it dominates the Indian stray-dog studies, it enters through skin, and it passes to people, most easily to children playing barefoot.

Test, don't guess
For an adult dog there is a more careful option than dosing by calendar alone: a fecal egg count at any veterinary clinic is cheap and definitive, and one or two a year will tell you whether the quarterly tablet is doing its work or missing something a different drug would catch. Puppies are the deliberate exception: for them the infection is assumed because it is nearly universal, and the protocol runs without waiting for proof.
