Summary: Sunny and Sohan are engaged in a chat about Sohan's dog's behavior. The dog behaves well at home, walks well with Sohan, and doesn't show reactivity towards stray dogs. However, he becomes alert and reactive when encountering other dogs on a leash and also has a problem with distraction and fixation. These issues might have resulted from the dog observing another dog from his balcony. Sohan also mentions that his dog acts differently indoors and outdoors. Sunny suggests practicing obedience training with the dog, and maintaining a fast walk speed to prevent the dog from fixating on other dogs.

Why does a pet dog get alert and reactive towards other dogs on a leash and how to manage this behavior?
Hello sunny I have a dogoargentino
Am following the five rituals..
He walks properly with me.
And also he is not reactive towards stray dogs just here and there ..
But the moment if someone else is walking their dogs on leash he gets alert and reactive…
Also he suffers from distraction and fixation ..
While walking he has the habit of looking behind if someone else is coming from behind or people jogging sideways he wants to jump on them..
He doesn’t bite but he is very excited as usual ..
At home he is ok

It looks like their is some insecurity in the dog. Practicing Obedience training with him will help a lot.
Is there any past event related to dogs on leash? does he gets reactive towards all dogs on leash or just the ones who are excited?
He is 2years old…I live alone..I have noticed that from balcony he sees another lab ..and lab owner happily get them to their terrace to bark…they are right opposite to my balcony ..this has developed that issue..I correct him calmly ..
Also he listens in the house but outside he fixates ..rest he is happy to meet people…
I know the problem exists in me not him…trying to figure out
There is no any untoward incident till today like dog fights etc etc with other dog on leash …I avoid that..
Also aur ek poochna tha ..jab mai walk kartho hu tho dusre leash wale dog walk karthe hua ..humare bhaisahab seedha ruk jatha hai tho aise samay jab mai thoda leash pressure aage detha hu aur agar react kare tho upar ..fixation bhari kartha par mai sirf chal the rehtha hu
So when you keep your speed fast then chances of him fixating will be less, and as soon as he starts fixating, mean the moment he starts to shift his focus, change your direction immediately, soon it will change his association of fixating on other dog to look the other way.
